(NewsNation) — The House Oversight Committee hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena, government disclosure, and protection for whistleblowers took place on Tuesday.
One of the major talking points from the hearing was a never-before-seen video from Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., that he says showed an MQ-9 drone launch a Hellfire missile at an “orb” off the coast of Yemen back in October 2024. The missile appeared to bounce off the object.
Investigative journalist Ross Coulthart, who commented on the hearing in a live stream for NewsNation, told “CUOMO” the video alone was proof of how meaningful the hearing was.
“It matters because that is one of the top missiles in the U.S. military arsenal for combating surface-to-air, and it frankly didn’t make a jot of difference to whatever that object is,” he said.
“That’s significant, because what it shows is there is a technology that’s unhindered by whatever it is that the U.S. is trying to use against it.”
Coulthart acknowledged that the video could be a watershed moment for how Americans view UAPs as opposed to the past. He said that before the hearing, the U.S. military and the U.S. intelligence community as a whole had tried to keep UAPs from being public knowledge.
“Is this the reason why they don’t want us to know about the UAP missile mystery?” Coulthart asked.
“Frankly, I think this was a turning point in congressional awareness on UAPs. Congress got its mojo back. This video is a signal of its intention to take the defense and intelligence community on for their unwillingness to engage the public on this mystery,” added Coulthart.
During the hearing, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, suggested she would subpoena Sean Kirkpatrick, former director of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, whom she earlier in the hearing called a “liar.” Coulthart feels this is another important step forward for Congress.
“The big criticism that was being made before this hearing was that it was going to be a dog-and-pony show,” he said. “Instead, we did get some compelling witnesses firsthand to some serious concerning events.”
Luis Elizondo, the former head of the government’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, said the UAP video made the country’s entire missile system “completely and utterly useless.”
Elizondo said the missile launched at the UAP is one of the most sophisticated, most capable weapons the military has.
“It is making it almost irrelevant,” Elizondo told Chris Cuomo. “This is a significant problem from a strategic perspective, from a tactical perspective, from a national security perspective. This video is extremely compelling.”
Elizondo added he wishes more of the UAP videos, such as the one at the hearing, were released.
