In the opening scenes of the original movie, Star Wars: A New Hope, the first starship we see is the Tantive IV, being pursued and fired upon by a huge Imperial Star Destroyer that fills the screen.

Lego has produced a 654-piece model of the iconic Rebel craft that measures 12.5 inches long. Its regular price is $79.99, but you can now pick it up for just $40 in this Black Friday Amazon deal.

Those opening scenes aboard the Tantive IV are the first time viewers encounter R2-D2, C3PO and of course, Darth Vader. For our money, that makes it a very special starship, worthy of a place in any Lego Star Wars collection.

Our tester enjoyed the process and the results, saying: “The Lego Star Wars Tantive IV is a gorgeous model packed with details, and it’s super fun to build. We’re loving this trend of smaller display ships at more reasonable prices. Detail-wise, the Tantive IV build is impressive with authentic-looking gun turrets, flames being emitted from the engines, but our favorite little detail is the missing escape pod — as used by R2-D2 and C-3PO in their getaway to Tatooine with the concealed Death Star plans.

We reckon the finished build looks great and is ideal for display. The fiddly build and lack of play features make this a Lego set that’s better suited for collectors rather than younglings. That said, younger builders would be fine working alongside an adult.

Price history: We’ve featured the Lego Tantive IV model in deals before, but the price has usually been around $65. The current price drop of 50% is a huge cut and is by far the lowest price this Lego set has ever seen. Walmart has price-matched the current Amazon price, and there are price cuts elsewhere, but nothing as low as $40.
