(NewsNation) — Actress Emma Stone said she believes in the existence of aliens and agrees with astronomer Carl Sagan that it’s “narcissistic” to believe there is no other life in the universe.
In her new film “Bugonia,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this week, Stone plays a chief executive who is kidnapped by a pair of conspiracy theorists who believe she is an alien set on destroying Earth.
During the movie’s press tour in Venice, Stone was asked about her views on the existence of extraterrestrial life. Stone replied, “So, yes, I’m coming out with it: I believe in aliens.”
The Guardian reported that Stone added, “I don’t know about looking down on us, but one of my favorite people who has ever lived is Carl Sagan and I fell madly in love with his philosophy and science and how brilliant he is.”
She continued, “The idea that we’re alone in this vast expansive universe … not that we’re being watched, but that we’re alone out here is a pretty narcissistic thing to think.”
Sagan played a pivotal role in the American space program as a consultant and adviser to NASA beginning in the 1950s. He briefed Apollo astronauts before their flights to the Moon, according to NASA.
