Microgravity Research Rideshare Program Launched by Genesis, Experiments from €6K to and from SSO

editorSpace News5 hours ago6 Views

21 December 2025, Čakovec — Genesis Space Flight Laboratories launches its Microgravity Research Rideshare Program, making it easier and more affordable to conduct retrievable experiments in space. From now on, biotechnology researchers, life and environmental scientists, pharmaceutical innovators, and startups with advanced material or bio-samples that react to microgravity can easily launch and retrieve small payloads to and from low Earth orbit.

Thanks to the compact design of GEN spacecraft, which hosts the research module in its pressurized compartment, multiple launches can be conducted each year. The program begins with several flights to SSO between 2026 and 2027, each lasting six to nine months. Short microgravity research missions are also available on upcoming suborbital test flights.

Examples of Samples Onboard GEN
Customers come from many fields, including life and environmental sciences, and medicine. Onboard GEN, samples include engineered living materials and a fungal biofilm from InnoRenew CoE, algae samples from the University of Ljubljana, soil microorganisms and soil samples from the University of Debrecen, seed research from multiple institutions including the Orion Space Generation Foundation and the Research Nature Institute, and human genomic research including DNA samples from individuals and SpaceABC.

Reflight Insurance
If a mission fails completely, for example no telemetry, no research data download, or no sample recovery, a second launch will be provided at no extra cost on the next available flight.

Payload Types and Pricing
Any small sample in vials, active agar experiments or materials that fit into 4 millimeter diameter by 2 millimeter height cells, can be included in the rideshare program.

Passive Sample: Prices start at €6K for a single passive sample for pre- and post-mission analyses that do not require in-orbit measurements. Examples include materials and biosamples, such as seeds, where post-mission effects are evaluated later in your lab.

Active Sample: Active experiment slots start at €12K per sample and include two-way communications and regular research and telemetry data. The GEN spacecraft is equipped with 10-bit infrared sensors. These sensors allow monitoring of changes such as biomass growth, chlorophyll variations, and overall sample health, using a simplified infrared scale similar to NDVI measurements.

Both active and passive research include integration services, full ground-segment support for the entire mission, sample recovery attempts, and reflight insurance.

Full Capsule: You can have the entire mission for yourself, using our IR sensors, which support up to 25 biological or material samples per flight, or integrate your own test Research Module. Maximum dimensions are 4.5 by 4.5 centimeters and 1 centimeter in height, powered by 3.3 volts from the bus.

How to Book
To book your slot on upcoming GEN flights, fill out the Request form on the Rideshare page, where you can also request the Research Rideshare Brochure and Services Specifications. After your request is reviewed, we will contact you and provide all necessary contracting documents.

Timeline
Our scheduled missions include a Q1 2026 suborbital short mission, Q2 2026 launches to SSO for a nine-month mission, Q3 suborbital test flights, and Q4 2026 launches with multiple GEN spacecraft to SSO. In 2027, suborbital test flights and longer missions to SSO will continue with upscaled reentry vehicles.

After a successful reservation, a sampling kit will be sent based on your research, and all samples should be delivered to our build facility for integration at least L-60. For ultra-sensitive payloads, last-minute integration on the launch pad is available for an additional fee.

About Genesis Space Flight Laboratories
Genesis designs and manufactures small reentry vehicles and satellites. Its debut flight was on SpaceX Transporter 14, carrying more than 980 biological samples to space, mostly from European researchers. A seed round from Fil Rouge Capital helped launch the GEN reentry program. Within six months, flight-ready small reentry capsules and their host satellites were built for commercial use.
