Following the successful static fire test of Booster 19 on May 7, 2026, preparations are underway for Ship 39 to be integrated with the booster, forming the Flight 12 stack ahead of a Wet Dress Rehearsal this weekend. The static fire, which involved a full-duration test lasting about 14 to 15 seconds, saw all 33 Raptor 3 engines ignite and operate at liftoff thrust levels, a significant advancement over previous tests limited to half throttle.

Booster 19 has undergone several modifications since its last appearance, including a complete factory paint job on the aft section to enhance thermal protection and visual cleanliness. Other updates include added protective coverings for pressurization lines and strengthened structural components to enhance durability and heat management. These upgrades reflect SpaceX’s commitment to validating the new Block 3 hardware and the capabilities of Pad 2 before its maiden flight.

Prior to the recent static fire, Booster 19 completed an extensive series of tests, including multiple cryogenic proof tests and static fire evaluations. Even though its number of tests does not surpass veteran Booster 7, the rigorous testing schedule demonstrates the company’s focus on ensuring reliability as it moves forward. The successful static fire followed earlier scrubs due to technical issues, showcasing the efficacy of the upgraded water deluge and flame trench system at the new pad.

Block 3 boosters introduce several enhancements aimed at improving performance and reusability, including increased propellant capacity, advanced control features, and the more efficient Raptor 3 engines. With the recent static fire completed, the focus is now on stacking Ship 39 with Booster 19, although crews did encounter a minor setback when part of the tower’s chopsticks sustained damage during the static fire tests. Repair efforts were swiftly executed, allowing stacking procedures to continue.

The upcoming Wet Dress Rehearsal will simulate a full countdown, including range clearing and propellant loading for both vehicles, providing crucial operational insights to the launch control team. Following this rehearsal, both Booster 19 and Ship 39 will return to the production facility for final checks and potential refinements before the planned mid-May launch.

Details regarding Ship 39’s specific configuration remain limited, but initial images suggest improvements in the heat shield design. These changes aim to enhance performance during reentry, following challenges faced by previous models. While the mission will primarily test the capabilities of the new Block 3 vehicle and related systems, achieving successful operational milestones could lead to swift preparations for subsequent flights, with Booster 20 already in position and Ship 40 having passed early testing stages.
