Organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and hosted by the Rwanda Space Agency (RSA), the 2nd IAF Global Space Conference on Climate Change (GLOC 2026) will take place from 2-4 June 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme “Uniting Space and Earth for Climate Resilience”, marking the first time the landmark conference will take place on African soil.
GLOC 2026 is expected to welcome a wide spectrum of participants, including Heads of State, ministers, senior officials of major space agencies, industry leaders, development partners, investors, scientists, astronauts, and innovators, major financial institutions and the civil society. The Conference will kick-off with a High-Level Opening Ceremony and inauguration of the Exhibition.
As climate change intensifies pressure on ecosystems and economies, Earth observation satellites, climate data systems, and environmental monitoring platforms have become indispensable tools for decision-makers worldwide. GLOC 2026 will provide a high-level forum for exchanging knowledge, showcasing innovations, and forging the international partnerships needed to scale these solutions.

“Bringing GLOC to Africa for the first time is a powerful statement about the global collaboration in the space sector. Climate challenges do not respect borders, and neither should the solutions. Africa’s space community brings perspectives and priorities that will make this conference stronger.” Gabriella Arrigo, President, International Astronautical Federation
The choice of Kigali reflects Rwanda’s growing profile as a hub for science, technology, and innovation in Africa. The conference will also serve as a platform to amplify African perspectives in global policy discussions on space and climate, a voice that has historically been underrepresented in such forums.
“Hosting GLOC 2026 in Kigali is a milestone not only for Rwanda, but for Global space ambitions as a whole. Our continent faces some of the most acute climate pressures on Earth, and our space sector has a direct role to play in developing the monitoring, prediction, and resilience tools communities need.” Gaspard Twagirayezu, Chief Executive Officer, Rwanda Space Agency

Taking place over three days at the Kigali Convention Centre, GLOC 2026 will feature high-level panels, technical programme, exhibitions, and networking across themes including space-based climate monitoring, Earth observation, sustainability, policy innovation, and international cooperation.
